The Breakaway is Norwegian’s newest ship. Her first sailing will be in May 2013. She is going to be a BEAUTIFUL ship and in many ways will be similar to the Norwegian Epic. The Breakaway’s home port will be New York City – all year long! Since I am from Massachusetts, I love this home port choice. Norwegian had a webinar for travel agents the other day and here are some of the new announcements about the Breakaway.
Mastering Culinary Heights:
There will be 3 variations of an Ocean Blue Seafood restaurant on board the Breakaway. There will be an Ocean Blue restaurant for elegant dining. There will be a Raw Bar. And there will be an Ocean Blue Waterfront that will offer take away dining, boardwalk style.
Food Network’s Geoffrey Zakarain will be involved from the beginning with the design of these 3 Ocean Blue Seafood restaurants. Mr. Zakarain has 2 famous restaurants: The Lambs Club and The National. He will be involved with all aspects of setting up the restaurants on the Breakaway including menu and recipe planning.
For those of you who have sailed on the Epic, you are probably familiar with Slam Alan from the Fat Cats Jazz and Blues Club. The Breakaway will have a Fat Cats Jazz lounge and Slam Alan will be playing there! He will offer nightly jazz and blues live music. Slam Alan is very popular with both guests and amongst other performers on the Epic. He puts on a great show with his band.
Headliners Comedy Club:
The Second City improvisational Comedy show will be performing multiple shows, similar to the Epic and other Norwegian ships, in the Headliners Comedy Club. Also, the extremely popular, Howl at the Moon will be playing in the same club on other nights. Howl at the Moon is a dueling piano show and they love to take requests from the audience. Lots of fun!
In the Spiegel Tent, there will be an adaption of the broadway show, Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy. This show will have Neil Goldberg as director and producer. It is a wonderful opportunity to see a Cirque show (which is different from the Epic) close up. You may even be chosen to participate!! It will be a must see.
Burn the Floor:
The Burn the Floor show will show off supercharged ballroom dancing. Shows will be offered both in the 800 seat Breakaway Theater and in the Manhattan Dining room. This dance sensation will dazzle guests with their re-invented ballroom dancing. Burn the Floor is a groundbreaking show, serving as a melting pot of styles. Lots of energy and fun!
Rock of Ages:
The 5 time Tony Award nominated musical, Rock of Ages, will be shown 4 times per cruise in the Theater! This show is one of the longest running shows in Broadway history. The show offers great 80’s music in which the audience can sing along. Lots of energy and fun – like a concert. If you enjoyed the Broadway show or the movie, you will love this show!!
Similar to the Epic, all shows will be free except for the Cirque show. Cirque tickets will be $25 or $35 for premium seats. This show also includes dinner.
The Haven, similar to the Epic, will be available on the Breakaway. Also, the Breakaway offers studio rooms for solo travelers. In addition, similar to the Epic, there are many macrobiotic dining choices. Please refer to my Epic blog post on the type of choices for more details.
